Women Speak

I have just become a member of the SWPP - The Professional Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers. I introduced myself on the forum and got such a positive response!

I probably should add that I have already charged and been paid for this wedding but did it for a fraction to get the experience and that advice was given for charges for future weddings based on how many hours I spent on this one. :-)

HI Ann, The wedding was great cheers and I have just finished reading another lovely letter sent by the bride & groom thanking me for being there and taking the photos etc - they haven't even seen any pics yet so they must have faith in me which is lovely! I have also spent two 8 hour days editing all the pics and have narrowed it down to 400 shots. Someone advised me to keep a tab of all the hours worked at the wedding and the post production stuff too and then base my price accordingly otherwise you end up working for minimum wage, lol...
I enquired with the BPPA/SWPP regarding their in-house qualificatons and I need to send in a body of recent work. It's a good thing as it helps to keep standards higher.
Its a great society, loadsof advice and help with Photoshop etc, I had always wondered what sort of support was available after leaving the cosy little world of education.

Hi Sarah, How did the wedding go? Hope you enjoyed the experience - it can be quite daunting especially the first one or two.
I am a portriat, wedding and commercial photographer - portrait side looks after itself but find that being a member of the SWPP or BIPP etc is very useful - clients feel assured when they see you attached to such a network/society. I would suggest when you get time to try for a 'panel' of images and go for a Licentaship - although you mention that you studied for 3 yrs (it could be you are already eligible for a qualification), worth checking with SWPP.

HI Ann, have been working as freelance photographer for 4 years as well as studying at the same time for 3 years of that. The majority of that work started off as architectural then became still life/artists portfolios, portraits, events but just started as a wedding photographer. In fact I photographed my first wedding on saturday just gone and had a great time!
